history

Information board on the history of the RO Meyer company in Hamburg-Eilbek

On July 6, 1858, Rudolph Otto Meyer founded his craft business on the Elbe island of Peute in Hamburg to build heating systems for greenhouses . Since the 1890s the construction of boilers and power stations and their installation has been carried out, among other things to supply the new Hamburg town hall with district heating. After the Second World War , international activities were greatly expanded. Heating systems were supplied to the Middle East and Indonesia to equip hospitals, among other things.

In 1997 the installation company Rudolph Otto Meyer ( ROM ) was sold 100% to Internatio Müller NV (today Imtech NV) by the shareholders at the time . In 2000 Rheinelektra Technik GmbH was taken over . The German location has been operating as Imtech Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG since 2002 . Imtech Germany is especially responsible for the business in Poland, Romania, Austria, Finland and Russia.

Imtech owned the company Fritz & Macziol, based in Ulm , since 2006 . It was linked to the ICT information technology division in the group.

On June 20, 2008 Imtech Germany celebrated its 150th anniversary in Frankfurt am Main.

Imtech was heavily involved in the renovation of the SS Rotterdam , including electrical installation and fire protection. In July 2008 the work was interrupted because Imtech asked for more money.

From 2007 to 2010, Imtech was the general contractor for the technical equipment of the twin towers of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt am Main . According to reports in the Handelsblatt in February 2011, the managers of subcontractors were bribed with visits to brothels, among other things; these in turn were allowed to bill more hours in return in early 2010. On the day before the shareholders' meeting on June 28, 2013, it became known that an economic criminal, officially referred to as "Mister Y" by the group management, had investigated corruption in the renovation of the Frankfurt twin towers in 2011 on behalf of the group. He found out more than he should and in his final report from May 2011 warned the group of mafia-like structures and put a heavy burden on the managing director of the German subsidiary, Klaus Betz. However, Betz was covered by the group and the investigation was delayed for two years. The commissioned investigator himself, identified by Telegraaf as Thomas Wüppesahl , was banned from the house by Imtech in 2011 . The first day of the trial at the Frankfurt Regional Court against the accused construction manager from Imtech Germany began in April 2014.

From 2012 to March 2013, Imtech Germany was in charge of the construction of Adventure World Warsaw with a planned total investment volume of 800 million US dollars. The public prosecutor's office has been investigating corruption since February 2013; the project had to be abandoned by the investor.

On September 20, 2013, it became known that Jörg Gerhard S., who had been spokesman for the management for 25 years, was also suspected of fraud. Unjustified payments in the millions are said to have flowed to the companies Batalpha Bobach, Bobach Steuerungstechnik and Contracting Plus in Langenfeld (Rhineland) and Jörg Gerhard S. Hanseprojekte in Hamburg.

In April 2014, against the background of its economic crisis, Imtech announced that it wanted to completely separate from the ICT division, which led to the sale of the ICT division to the French conglomerate VINCI SA on August 26th (subject to the approval of the antitrust authorities etc. ). In the March 2014 annual report, a bribery affair in the ICT division was dealt with more intensively. Among other things, officials from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs were bribed.

In 2014 it was also reported that in Switzerland several 100,000 francs of company-owned funds with fancy bills had been diverted into private pockets. In addition, two executives had sold privately owned F & M cars at inflated prices; there are at least five corresponding sales contracts for a total of around 450,000 francs.

In the specialist fire protection branch, reports of problems with Imtech trades that had led to considerable delays in the completion or even to the termination of contracts have been increasing since 2013.

Imtech Germany together with YIT , Bosch and Siemens in the construction of smoke and heat extraction of the Berlin-Brandenburg involved; it was planned contrary to official requirements and is not functional without extensive conversion. This problem is a major cause of the postponed opening date. In July 2013, allegations were also raised in the BZ that Imtech had committed a billing fraud with 40,000 unused working hours with damage amounting to millions. In November 2014 it became known that the airport company was checking whether Imtech had agreed with competitors on the tenders.

The Center for Operative Medicine II as part of the Düsseldorf University Hospital with five specialist clinics, a central emergency room, ten operating theaters and 288 beds could only be opened in September 2014. The opening was originally planned for 2009, but there were considerable delays, among other things “because of significant deficiencies in fire protection”, for which Imtech was commissioned; in the meantime the hospital has been referred to as a “ghost clinic”. The costs during non-operation for cleaning, heating and technical maintenance work amounted to 2 million euros annually. The clinic announced legal disputes regarding the executing company Imtech. The trial at the Düsseldorf Regional Court was scheduled for January 2016.

The new building of the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences could not be opened as planned in autumn 2013. The client, Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW, largely described Imtech as unreliable. The official opening took place on September 25, 2015.

On October 15, 2014 it became known that the Rathaus-Galerie in Hagen could not be opened as planned. Fire protection deficiencies were to blame. Imtech was responsible for this area. The gallery has an area of around 22,000 m² with 70 shops. The list of deficiencies in the area of fire protection and ventilation technology had around 800 individual points, including serious deficits that could not be remedied until the end. GEDO, the owner of the project, canceled the contract with Imtech two weeks before the planned opening.

The new building of the University of Health (HSG) on the NRW health campus in Bochum also suffered delays due to problems with fire protection. In October 2014 it became known that the construction and property company NRW had primarily blamed Imtech and terminated a large part of the contracts with the company.

On September 1, 2013, Felix Colsman became the new managing director of Imtech Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG . He replaced Adrianus Franciscus Graauwmans as temporary managing director.

In October 2013 Imtech filed a criminal complaint against eight of its own managers with the Hamburg public prosecutor; However, this was not yet about events relating to the customer RWE .

On November 5, 2014 Imtech announced that investigations into corruption in two projects in the power plant sector for the past period from 2008 to 2010 will be started. This is done after receiving information from a whistleblower. On the basis of agreements and bogus orders in return, Imtech is said to have defrauded RWE with the construction of the Westfalen power plant (new hard coal units D and E) in Hamm and the Dutch RWE power plant Eemshaven in Eemsmond , reports Handelsblatt and Telegraaf . The company Ferrostaal Air Technology GmbH in Saarlouis received funds from Imtech in the form of bogus invoices. RWE announced that, if necessary, "consistently demand compensation, as RWE generally does in cases of cartel agreements."

On November 17, 2014 it became known that the Stuttgart public prosecutor was investigating Imtech. In his role as manager at Imtech, the former president of VfR Aalen is said to have built a system of bogus invoices worth millions. For 13 years he was head of Imtech's head office in Aalen, then regional director. He headed VfR Aalen for six years until 2003.

Since December 2014, the Neuruppin public prosecutor's office has been investigating four former Imtech executives and a former Imtech division manager on charges of bribery for a back payment in December 2012 amounting to 65 million euros to Imtech (33 million euros to Imtech and a further 41 million euros Euros to a joint venture between Imtech and Caverion , including 65 million euros to Imtech Germany) by the supervisory board of Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The employee Francis G. was an authorized signatory and is said to have received two million euros; the public prosecutor's office seized 300,000 euros from a house search.

In January 2015, Imtech Germany, together with Imtech Polska and Imtech Hungary, received an order for ventilation, cooling, air conditioning, heating, compressed air and hydrants for the construction of a new Volkswagen plant in Września .

In 2010 Imtech was awarded the contract for the technologies in the Warsaw National Stadium . In January 2015, PBG demanded 131 million euros from Imtech for the need for repairs as well as contractual penalties for delays and breaches of safety standards.

On February 3, 2015, the Munich I public prosecutor, with the participation of the Federal Cartel Office, searched around 50 properties in a preliminary investigation into the allegation of a construction cartel involving Imtech. By February 2015, 70 percent of the management of Imtech Germany had been replaced against the background of irregularities. In February 2015, a publication in the Handelsblatt announced that managers from Munich had contacted Klaus Betz, head of Imtech Germany, in a letter dated February 5, 2013 about the system of bogus invoices on behalf of the then chief executive of the group headquarters, René van der Bruggen, complained: "As you know, the Southeast region had to bear and also pay a large number of burdens from Imtech Holland in recent years on instructions, for which there is no adequate consideration to this day." This contradicts the representation of the group headquarters up to this point in time, the problems with irregularities would lie in Germany alone.

According to the ZEIT report of July 16, 2015, Klaus Betz, the former head of the German subsidiary, told the public prosecutor at the end of 2014 that he had falsified accounts on the instructions of former CEO René van der Bruggen. In July 2015 it became known that the former CEO René van der Bruggen had allowed funds of at least 100 million euros to flow from the German subsidiary to the parent company from 2002 to 2012 via bogus invoices in order to conceal deficits.

At the beginning of August 2015, Imtech Germany's financial situation became difficult. Talks were held with the investors in order to secure sufficient liquidity for the payment of salaries. Imtech Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG filed for insolvency on August 6, 2015. At the time of the insolvency, 960 Imtech Germany construction sites were affected , including the Cologne Opera .

Most recently, Imtech did not make a payment of 21 million euros to the German subsidiary, which triggered the insolvency. As of December 31, 2014, Imtech Germany had receivables of EUR 270 million from the parent company and liabilities of the Dutch parent company of only EUR 114 million; the balance was over 150 million euros.

criticism

In an article in “ Zeit ” on July 16, 2015, the authors accused Imtech Germany of at least partially pursuing a “criminal business model”. Imtech has been involved in numerous construction projects, which have resulted in construction delays and drastic cost increases. These include the new building of the headquarters of the Federal Intelligence Service , an operations center for the University Clinic in Düsseldorf , the campus of the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and, above all, the Berlin Brandenburg Airport . Imtech is certainly not solely to blame for the construction delays, but "played a decisive role in them". These delays would be cleverly used to receive acceleration and supplementary payments, often in the tens of millions. Breakdowns that persist for a long time would in this way become a "gold mine" for the building contractor. "Earning money with standstill is the supreme discipline of Imtech" and: "Imtech is the most aggressive when it comes to claim management. They show costs without having had them ”- said a building authority employee quoted in the article. Imtech building planners at Berlin Airport B. knowingly recognizable incorrect building plans implemented stubbornly in order to subsequently demolish or renovate the same buildings at corresponding additional costs.

Sponsorship

On August 21, 2009 Imtech Germany announced that it would be expanding its cooperation with Hamburger SV . Among other things, Imtech gave its name to the Volksparkstadion ( Imtech Arena ) from July 2010 to June 2015 and thus succeeded HSH Nordbank , which had terminated its sponsorship contract prematurely. In addition, Imtech became the “Energy Efficiency Partner” of FC Bayern Munich and “Business Partner” of VfB Stuttgart .

Imtech Deutschland GmbH only supported the second division soccer club VfR Aalen as main and shirt sponsor until July 2013. At the same time, it was announced that Imtech would end its involvement with Hamburger SV, FC Bayern and VfB Stuttgart as soon as possible for financial reasons. The sponsorship contract with FC Bayern was terminated in February 2014. An exit from Hamburger SV was still being negotiated in June 2014.

Imtech Austria Anlagentechnik GmbH

Imtech Austria Anlagentechnik GmbH established itself in 2009 as an independent company on the Austrian market. Your seat is Linz . It is part of Imtech Germany. She was a sponsor of the ice hockey club EHC Liwest Black Wings in Linz and SK Sturm Graz in Graz .

The first management members of the IAAT were Harald Winkler and Christian Dörn. Both left the VATECH / ELIN Group after the takeover by Siemens at ELIN and have reoriented themselves with the IAAT.

Imtech Austria worked at the Baumgarten geriatric center in Vienna , Vienna University of Economics and Business and some projects of the Austrian Federal Railways as well as the justice and court center in Eisenstadt as well as the new SZX building in the Kaiser-Franz-Josef Spital in Vienna, the ÖBB tunnel Perschling and the federal school center Ried next to the LKH Bad Aussee. The IAAT took over the activities at the Geriatric Center Baumgarten after the originally successful bidder (Bostelmann Elektrotechnik) filed for bankruptcy in 2011 and went bankrupt.

When the IAAT was downsized due to the market situation and the problems within the group in the first half of 2014, the management of the Hungarian company was taken over. After 2012, they wanted to free themselves for the third time from contaminated sites and problematic old projects and to restructure the organization and reduce it at the same time. The headquarters of Imtech Austria Anlagentechnik were also relocated from a representative office building in Linz to the port of Linz. The previous premises were handed over to Axians . Axians is the part of Imtech that formerly formed the ICT division and was sold to the Vinci Group in the course of the stormy years. The Axians is therefore no longer affected by the turbulence.

On August 28, 2015, the Austrian Imtech filed for bankruptcy at the LG Linz. According to press reports, the aim is not to keep the company going.
