The newspaper is published by the "FD Mediagroep". The paid circulation in the first quarter of 2008 was 55,849 copies. The editor-in-chief is Ulko Jonker, who was previously editor-in-chief of the regional newspaper De Gelderlander .

The Financieele Dagblad is the only business newspaper in the Netherlands. Its importance is compared with the Wall Street Journal (USA), the Financial Times (Great Britain), the Handelsblatt (Germany) or Les Échos and La Tribune (France).

history

The newspaper has two predecessors, the Amsterdamsch Effectenblad (founded in 1796) and Dagelijksche Beurscourant: de Nederlandsche financier (founded in 1864). During the German occupation in World War II, both were forcibly merged into today's Financieele Dagblad , the first edition appeared on September 15, 1943.

On April 2, 1982 Financieele Dagblad became the last Dutch newspaper to switch to photo typesetting . In 1995 the newspaper went online. On April 3, 2000, a Monday edition appeared for the first time, until then the newspaper had only appeared from Tuesday to Saturday. Since November 15, 2001, an English-language edition has appeared under the name Het Financieele Dagblad International Edition as a supplement to the Dutch edition of the International Herald Tribune , but this did not last long; the supplement appeared for the last time on April 15, 2003.

On March 1, 2003, the radio station Business Nieuws Radio was taken over with the aim that various media such as the Internet, radio and newspapers complement each other. On November 15, 2004, the broadcaster and Financieele Dagblad became part of the reorganized "FD Mediagroep" (formerly "FD Groep"), and on this occasion the employees, who had been spread over three locations, were given a new joint location.

In the course of time, the Financieele Dagblad has expanded in terms of content, a sign of this is the weekly magazine FD Personlijk , which has been included since March 4, 2005 .

Het Financieele Dagblad was a member of the International Research Association for the evaluation of the Panama Papers . On April 6, 2016, the newspaper reported that the name of Bert Meerstadt , a member of the board of directors of ABN Amro , nationalized since the financial crisis of 2008 , appeared in the files. According to this, documents from 2001 identify him as a founding partner of the letterbox company Morclan Corporation , which was initially registered in the Virgin Islands and later in Guernsey . On April 7, 2016, Meersburg resigned from his position on the Supervisory Board.
