Martin Buchhorn (born October 1944 in Wiebelskirchen ) is a German television director, screenwriter , journalist and writer .

biography

Martin Buchhorn was born the son of a Protestant preacher. According to his own statement, he was strongly influenced by his experience in prison. Buchhorn trained as a car mechanic, radio and television technician and electronics technician. Then he did a traineeship at the Saarbrücker Zeitung .

Buchhorn is self-taught as a television producer. He started out as a poet, non-fiction author and (from 1970) as a radio reporter for Saarländischer Rundfunk . From 1984 to 2004 he was head of the "TV Drama and Series" department at Saarland Radio. He invented the character of Inspector Palü and produced the crime scene with Jochen Senf in the lead role. His most important work was the film adaptation of the novel " Die Rättin " by Günter Grass in 1997. He was also producer, editor and director.

For revelations about surreptitious advertising on public television, he was publicly attacked by ARD in 2005 . He successfully defended himself against the attacks in court with injunctions and was given the case. A later lawsuit by Buchhorn against the regional broadcasting corporations and the ARD for violations of personal rights was rejected by the Saarbrücken regional court in September 2009.

After his retirement in 2004, Martin Buchhorn and partners founded “Metabolism”, the “First German Screenplay Office”. The consulting company in the field of "film and television production" offers the following services: script development and advice, editing, script doctoring, dramaturgy, film structure and construction, direction, casting, production, financing.

Part-time activities

At the University of Saarland and in the House of Literature Berlin Buchhorn held for many years screenplay seminars at the University of Music Saar , he worked as a lecturer.
Buchhorn had been honorary managing director of the Saarland Artists' House since 1984 . After a falling out with the then Saarland Minister of Culture Jürgen Schreier about the financing of a branch of the Künstlerhaus in Berlin , Buchhorn resigned from this honorary position in 2006. In the Association of German Writers (VS), today in ver.di , he was elected to the federal executive board for two years at the federal delegates' conference in Saarbrücken in 1984. He also worked as a curator at numerous regional and national art exhibitions.
