Martin Christian Goeldelius

Martin Christian Goeldelius , Latinized from Goeldel (* 1665 in Gotha , † 1738 in Lübeck ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian , educator and author .

Life

He came from a scholarly family in Gotha and was the son of Johannes Go (e) ldelius (1635–1685), teacher and cantor at Gotha grammar school , and his wife Barbara Maria, née. Hessling, from Arnstadt . His grandfather was a pastor in Liebenstein .

After attending the Gothaer Gymnasium Illustre he studied at the University of Jena from 1684 and received his master's degree here in 1687 . From 1691 he was vice principal of the grammar school in Schleusingen . In 1695 he was appointed to the same position at the Katharineum in Lübeck , where he remained until the end of his life.

He married Anna Dorothea, born on March 10, 1698 in Lübeck. Borgehl and after her untimely death on April 22, 1709 Johanna Margaretha, b. Erasmi. With her he had the son Christian Hinrich (born August 3, 1711), who studied medicine in Rostock from 1739. Another son, Johann Martin, also studied in Rostock and became a preacher in 1741 and in 1759 as the successor to Heinrich Scharbau (main) pastor at the Lübeck Aegidienkirche . He died in 1779.

In addition to numerous personal writings , especially parenting and memorial writings, he wrote several plays that were performed by the student body.
