Martin Crewes (* 1968 in Barnet , London ) is an Australian actor .

life and career

Martin Crewes was born in the London borough of Barnet . His father, who was born in New Zealand , and his mother are also actors and have appeared in many plays in the UK and Australia. At the age of ten, he moved to Australia with his parents. There he attended the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in Perth , which he graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts in musicals. Upon graduation, he received roles as Lt Joe Cable in South Pacific , Marius in Les Misérables , Claud in Hair and Chino in West Side Story . He had other musical appearances in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat , The Wizard of Oz and in Aspects of Love .

Crewes had his first television role in 1992 in three episodes of the award-winning Australian soap Neighbors as Dennis Parsons . In 1993 he received a guest appearance on the sixth episode of the first season of the sitcom Newlyweds - The newlyweds . A year later, he returned to Neighbors in eight episodes , but played the role of Chip Kelly . He played his next role from 1998 to 2000 in the British drama series Dream Team . In the meantime he also made a guest appearance in Bad Girls . In 2002 he made his film debut in the role of Chad Kaplan in Sci-Fi - Action - Horror Resident Evil . This was followed by a leading role in the television film Die Kreuzritter 9 - Die heilige Rita (2004) and a role as butler in the action flick DOA - Dead or Alive (2006). From September 2004 to July 2005 he returned to the theater in the role of Walter Hartright in the West End production The Woman in White . In 2008 he made a brief guest appearance on the series Casualty . In 2011 he had a recurring supporting role in the Australian dramedy television series Crownies .
