Martin Fido
Martin Fido (born October 18, 1939 in Penzance ; † April 2, 2019 ) was a British university lecturer and author . In his works he was mainly concerned with the history of crime in the United Kingdom.
Live and act
After studying English at Balliol College at the University of Oxford , he taught English at the Universities of Leeds and Michigan from 1966 to 1972 . In 1973 he became Professor and Head of the Department of English at the University of the West Indies in Barbados before returning to England in 1983. At the London radio station LBC Radio , he presented the weekly program Murder After Midnight for 20 years , which was also distributed on cassette and CD.
Fido wrote biographies on famous people like Charles Dickens , Oscar Wilde , William Shakespeare and the fictional character Sherlock Holmes . Along with Paul Begg and Keith Skinner published Fido bestseller The complete Jack the Ripper A to Z . From 2001 he taught at Boston University .
