Martin Friedrich Cannabich

Martin Friedrich (or Matthias Franciscus) Cannabich (* around 1690 in Alsace ; buried October 12, 1773 in Mannheim ) was a German composer, oboist and flutist.

Life

He was court musician in the chapel of Elector Johann Wilhelm . After the elector's death, Cannabich worked for his successor Karl Philipp in Heidelberg from 1718 to 1720 . After the electoral court moved from Heidelberg to Mannheim, he can be traced back to Mannheim as a member of the court orchestra in 1723. There he was also the flute teacher of Prince Elector Karl Theodor . He retired in 1756.

Martin Friedrich Cannabich was married twice: in 1715 he married Anna Maria Essers, in 1727 his second wife Rosina Arnold. He was the father of Christian Cannabich and the grandfather of Carl Cannabich , also composers and musicians.
