Martin Gehlen

Martin Gehlen (* 1956 in Dusseldorf ) is a political scientist , sociologist and the Middle East - a correspondent of the German press.

Life

From 1976 to 1987 Gehlen studied biology and Catholic theology. In addition, he studied North American Studies, studied the relationship between religion and politics at Harvard University , the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at Science Po in Paris, and received his doctorate in 2004 from the Max Weber College for Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt at Hans Joas in political science with the subject of political advice in the USA on the influence of private think tanks on US social policy. Gehlen completed a traineeship at the German School of Journalism .

Gehlen is the Middle East correspondent for various German-language newspapers (e.g. the Frankfurter Rundschau or the Tagesspiegel , since 2008 of the time ) in Cairo. Among other things, he worked as a political editor for the Südwest Presse and the Tagesspiegel .

Gehlen is married to the photographer Katharina Eglau (* 1960), with whom he has lived in Cairo since 2008.
