Martin Heger

Martin Heger (born September 26, 1968 in Stuttgart ) is a German lawyer and professor at the Humboldt University of Berlin .

Life

In 1988, Heger graduated from high school in Mainz and subsequently did his community service . In 1990 he began studying law at the University of Tübingen . He finished his studies in 1994 with the acquisition of the first state examination in law in Tübingen. After his two-year legal clerkship, he obtained his second exam in 1996. During his legal clerkship he worked at Wernhard Möschel's chair in Tübingen as a research assistant. In 1997 he switched to Kristian Kühl within the faculty , where he worked until 2005. In 2002 he did his doctorate under Kühl as Dr. jur. This work was awarded the PhD award of the University of Tübingen in 2003. Three years later he completed his habilitation in Tübingen and thus acquired the venia legendi for the subjects of criminal law, criminal procedural law, European and international criminal law and recent legal history.

In the 2005 summer semester, Heger held a chair at the University of Regensburg . Since November 2005, he has held the chair for criminal law, criminal procedure law, European criminal law and recent legal history at the Humboldt University in Berlin . His teaching activity in Berlin was only interrupted by a stay as a visiting lecturer at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town. From 2008 to 2010 he was director of the Berlin James Goldschmidt Institute for Criminal Science and Contemporary Legal History, and since 2008 he has also been director of the Franz von Liszt Institute for International Criminal Law.

Martin Heger is married and has three children.
