From autumn 1958 he studied Protestant theology at the University of Rostock . From 1965 to 1969 he was a research assistant at Systematic Theology Institute of the University of Rostock, its graduation to the Dr. theol. took place in 1968. He was ordained pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mecklenburg and was pastor of the Rostock- Südstadt parish from 1969 to 1973 . Then he was director of the seminary in Gnadau . "Swords to Plowshares", suggested by Kuske, in the town church of Teterow

In the city and in the district he was active in a variety of community work. In 1989 he suggested a sword for plowshare memorial, for which a scrap part of an armored vehicle of the NVA in the Teterow armaments factory RWN ( repair shop Neubrandenburg ) was used. After the fall of the Wall in 1989, he and his wife Ruth built one of the first social welfare stations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and a self-help network. In 1994 the Mecklenburg regional church appointed him regional pastor for diaconia .

Just a few days after his 55th birthday, he passed away by suicide . He was buried with great sympathy on February 18, 1995 in the Schwerin forest cemetery.

Since his theological dissertation he was particularly interested in the theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer . He was a co-founder of the Bonhoeffer Committee at the Federation of Evangelical Churches in the GDR and became its secretary. In 1989 he was to receive the state medal of merit of the GDR for this, which led to a hard argument on the committee's board, especially with Wolf Krötke . It ended with Kuske not accepting the medal. After reunification, he became second chairman of the International Bonhoeffer Society, Section of the Federal Republic of Germany. For the new edition of Dietrich Bonhoeffer works he edited together with Ilse Tödt Bonhoeffer's successor.
