Martin Leddin

Karl Martin Leddin (* March 18, 1910 ; † July 22, 2006 ) was a Hamburg police officer, most recently from October 1965 chief police director and commander of the Hamburg police force .

Storm surge 1962

At the time of the Hamburg storm surge in 1962 , Leddin was the chief police officer , head of the Hamburg police force and a member of the first crisis team on the night of the flood. Leddin had put together the operational crisis team that night , which Helmut Schmidt found that morning. He headed the task force and, with the approval of the Police President, called the Bundeswehr for help in the emergency .

Shah demonstration in Hamburg in 1967

An investigation was initiated against Leddin because of incidents during the demonstration against the Shah of Persia Mohammad Reza Pahlavi on June 3, 1967, for assault in office. The public prosecutor's office had taken on the investigation. The proceedings were discontinued.

Trivia

In the film The Night of the Great Flood (2005), Martin Leddin is played by Walter Gontermann .
