Martin Müller (archaeologist)

Martin Müller (* 1964 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German provincial Roman archaeologist . Since 2003 he has been director of the Xanten Archaeological Park (APX) with the Roman Museum.

Career

Martin Müller completed a degree in archeology and ancient history at the universities of Hamburg , Perugia and Munich , where he received his doctorate in the 1993/94 winter semester. His dissertation is entitled The Roman grave finds from Faimingen- Phoebiana .

He worked as a volunteer and later as a scientific consultant at the Westphalian Museum of Archeology / Office for Monument Preservation . From 1995 to 2000 he worked as a lecturer and research assistant at the Archaeological Seminar of the University of Münster . From 1997 he was in charge of the new conception of the LWL Museum for Archeology in Herne as a scientific consultant .

From April 2000 Müller headed the Gera City Museum for three years, which was extensively renovated and redesigned during this time. In 2001 he was also head of the department for culture, school administration and sport in the city of Gera . Before the reopening of the city museum, he moved to Xanten in 2003 to take up the position of director of the Xanten Archaeological Park.

Parallel to his job in Xanten, Müller took over the provisional control of the archaeological zone with the Jewish museum in Cologne for almost two years from 2014 to June 2016 for the Landschaftsverband Rheinland , before the designated museum director Thomas Otten could take up his post.
