Łomnica (German Lomnitz , 1936–1945 Gnadenkirch ) is a village in Upper Silesia . It is located in the Gmina Olesno (Rosenberg OS) in the powiat Oleski of the Opole Voivodeship (Opole) .

Łomnica is located in the northeastern part of Upper Silesia in the Rosenberger Land. The village of Łomnica is located about ten kilometers southeast of the district town of Olesno and about 57 kilometers northeast of the voivodeship capital Opole . To the east of the village lies the border with the Silesian Voivodeship .

The place is in the Wyżyna Woźnicko-Wieluńska (Woischnik-Wieluń highlands) within the Obniżenie Liswarty (Lisswarther valley) . To the south of the village are extensive forest areas. The national road Droga krajowa 11 runs through the village . Łomnica lies on the Łomnica (Lomnitz) , a left tributary of the Lisswarta (Lisswarthe) .

The village was first mentioned in 1424 as Lompnicza . The place name is derived from the Slavic term Lomny and means quarry place .

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Lomnitz fell with most of Silesia to Prussia . The place was mentioned in 1783 in the book Additions to the Description of Silesia as Lomni (t) z , belonged to a Count von Gesler and was in the Rosenberg district of the Principality of Opole . At that time it had 557 inhabitants, four manorial farms , a school, two mills, nine farmers, 52 gardeners and six cottagers.

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Lomnitz belonged to the district of Rosenberg OS in the administrative district of Opole from 1816 . In 1845 there was a Catholic church, a Catholic school, a castle, a farm, a forestry, a brewery, a distillery and 124 houses in the village. In the same year, 811 people lived in Lomnitz, 17 of them Protestants and five Jewish. In 1855 the village had 915 inhabitants. In 1865 Lomnitz consisted of a dominion and a village. At that time, the village had 16 farmers, 35 gardeners, 12 vacant houses and 15 house trades, as well as a Catholic school, a Catholic church and two water mills. In 1874 the administrative district Schoffschütz was founded, which consisted of the rural communities Lomnitz, Schoffczütz and Tellsruh and the manor districts Lomnitz and Schoffczütz. In 1885 Lomnitz had 762 inhabitants.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 161 eligible voters voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 305 for membership in Poland. After the division of Upper Silesia, Lomnitz remained with the German Empire . In 1925 Lomnitz had 817 inhabitants. On November 1, 1928, the rural community Tellsruh and the manor district Schoffschütz were incorporated into Lomnitz. In 1933 the municipality of Lomnitz had 1284 inhabitants. On July 29, 1936, the place was renamed Gnadenkirch in the wake of a wave of renaming during the Nazi era . In 1939, 1289 lived in Gnadenkirch. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Rosenberg OS

In 1945 the previously German town came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed the Polish Łomnica . In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Oleski .
