from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Martin Marianowicz (born May 3, 1955 in Warsaw ) is a German orthopedist , medical entrepreneur and book author from Munich who specializes in the minimally invasive treatment of spinal and intervertebral disc diseases. He gained notoriety through his criticism of - in his opinion - unnecessary back operations in Germany and through numerous publications, especially in popular science.

Life

Martin Marianowicz was born in Warsaw in 1955 , and in 1957 he and his family moved to the Federal Republic of Germany. After attending the Erasmus-Grasser- and Asam-Gymnasium, he began studying medicine at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich in 1975 , where he specialized early on in the field of back and spine and in 1983 he was awarded a Dr. med. received his doctorate . The trigger for specializing in the treatment of back pain were two intervertebral disc operations in his early years, which prompted him to deal with the use of pain therapies .

He completed his specialist training ( orthopedics , chirotherapy and sports medicine ) at the right der Isar clinic , the Red Cross Clinic in Munich, the Ingolstadt clinic , the Bad Bergzabern district hospital and the Markgröningen spine center .

activity

Since 1981 he has practiced as a resident doctor at the Marianowicz Center for Diagnosis and Therapy in Munich-Bogenhausen and has also been Medical Director of the Jägerwinkel Private Clinic in Bad Wiessee since 2005 . Both facilities are designed to be interdisciplinary. His main orthopedic activities include outpatient and inpatient orthopedic pain therapy as well as minimally invasive therapies for spinal and intervertebral disc diseases.

Marianowicz achieved wide recognition with his thesis that 80 percent of all back operations carried out in Germany are superfluous and conservative treatment methods are significantly more effective and also relieve the health system . His theses are often the subject of media coverage. In 2015 he and Barbara Becker published a DVD - “The 60 best back exercises in the world”. It deals with the influence of psychological factors on back pain and how these should be taken into account in treatment. He developed a holistic osteoarthritis therapy that should make up to 75 percent of the operations superfluous.

Marianowicz is President of the Central and Eastern Europe Section of the World Institute of Pain (Advisory Board). He is married, has two children and lives in Munich.
