The Martin Motors CEO is a sport utility vehicle from the Italian car manufacturer Martin Motors . The CEO is the European version of the Chinese Shuanghuan SCEO . Most of the model's body panels come from China and are assembled by Martin Motors under license. Only individual parts and the engine are made in Italy.

Plagiarism dispute

Since the CEO's first presentation at Italian auto shows, BMW accused Martin Motors and the importers that the model was a plagiarism of the BMW E53 (X5) and tried to obtain import and sales bans through legal proceedings. Corresponding first exams in China (April 2004), Italy (July 2004) and France (February 2005) failed. The main reason for the rejection of the BMW application was the review according to the guidelines of the EC agreements, after such vehicles have to differ from the original in a certain percentage in order not to be considered plagiarism. Especially in this evaluation of the modification fell the front of the model, the engine and other technical changes to the original.

BMW tried unsuccessfully to prevent the announced presentation of the CEO at the IAA 2007 and also sued in Germany. In the first instance, the Munich District Court I imposed a sales ban on the CEO in June 2008 and threatened the confiscation of all vehicles still in the importer's inventory that were to be destroyed. The judgment was confirmed in May 2009 by the Munich Higher Regional Court in the second instance. The judgment is not yet final.

The court in Milan dismissed BMW's action against it. The model will continue to be assembled there and is to be sold throughout Europe. The units until summer 2008 with the brand logo of Shijiazhuang Shuanghuan Automobile Co., Ltd. the manufacturer has been using its own company logo ever since.
