life and work

As a graphic designer , author and illustrator , he has published several comic strips , narrative formats and computer graphics. His style is characterized by an infographic representation.

Panchaud's dyslexia was an obstacle that shaped him especially during his school days. This led him to focus on reading, as well as the interpretation of shapes and their meaning, which led to his distinctive style and creativity of storytelling.

In 2016 he published SWANH.NET, a 123 meter long illustrated adaptation of Star Wars Episode IV, for which he received recognition in various cultural institutions in Europe (Barbican Center in London, Onassis Stegi Cultural Center Athens).

In 2020 he will publish his first graphic novel The Color of Things (original title: La Couleur Des Choses) at Edition Moderne .

The color of things

"The Color of Things" Cover 1st edition March 2020

The color of things is a tragic comedy and a thriller and at the same time Panchaud's first graphic novel, which was published by the comics and graphic novel publisher Edition Moderne. On 224 pages, the story of 14-year-old Simon is told, who grew up in a difficult family home, was teased by his friends because of his overweight and used for their business. With the tip of a fortune teller , he should bet on a specific horse in the upcoming horse race in order to get the main prize. Simon collects his change for the bet and secretly takes his father's. He wins the grand prize of £ 16 million but cannot pick up the money because he is still a minor. When he goes home to get a signature from his parents, the beaten, unconscious mother is being looked after by the paramedics and there is no trace of the father. So Simon is on his own, but later gets help from a friend of his mother's to find his father.

«“ The color of things ”, that is the highlight of this comic, tells its story using infographics . The figures, in particular, are drawn in an extremely abstract manner. In connection with a strong text, however, the colored circles gain a depth as characters that are as astounding as they are touching. "

"It's amazing how the reduction promotes creativity: you add to the 'real' events while reading and experience how a strict graphic can convey something touching."

“In this way, Panchaud approaches the principle of prose as a comic book narrator by challenging our imagination to form our own picture of the actors. His volume is not as radical a drawing experiment as Simmons' was at the time, but it is an intelligent and entertaining mapping of the territory of comics. The color of things expands its limits considerably. "
