Martin Petráš (born November 2, 1979 in Bojnice , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak football player .
Club career
Petráš began playing football at Baník Prievidza , in the 1998/99 season he made the jump to the first team. In the summer of 2000, the Slovak moved to the Czech Republic and joined the Jablonec team. With good performances he drew the attention of the top club Sparta Prague , who signed the tall defender in the summer of 2002. Petráš was injured in preparation for the 2002/03 season, but then played his way into the starting line-up after his recovery and won the Czech title with Sparta. Another injury slowed him down again before he was again a regular at Sparta from 2004, which was again Czech champions in 2005.
In January 2006, Petráš moved via the formal detour FBK Kaunas to the Scottish first division club Heart of Midlothian , where he was only used five times. In the summer of 2006, the Slovak went to the Italian second division club US Lecce . In January 2007 Petráš changed clubs again and played on loan for FBC Treviso . In August 2007, the defender went to US Triestina on a free transfer , for whom he came to 44 games and two goals in Serie B in two years . For the 2009/10 season moved Petráš again and joined the AC Cesena on, with his promotion to the Serie A managed.
National team
Petráš has played regularly for the Slovak national team since 2002 and was also in the Slovak squad for the finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa . In 2000 he participated with the Slovak selection at the Summer Olympics in Sydney .
