Martin S. Weinberg

Martin S. Weinberg (born January 23, 1939 ) is an American sociologist and sexologist . He has been a full professor at Indiana University since 1974 .

Life

From 1956 to 1960, Weinberg received his BA from St. Lawrence University and from 1960 to 1961 his MA from the University of Massachusetts , before earning a Ph.D. from 1961 to 1965. from Northwestern University .

In his career he worked at various research and educational institutions. His first scientific position was at VA Hospital in Downey , Illinois , where he worked in the anthropological service in 1962 . In 1965 he taught at Northwestern University. From 1968 to 1980 he was a researcher at the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University. As Assistant, Visiting or Deputy Professor was at The State University (1965–1968), Indiana University (1968–1974), State University of New York (1981), University of Maryland (1985–1988) and University of Auckland (1998, 2003).

Weinberg has received a number of awards for his scientific activities, including the Magnus Hirschfeld Medal for Sexology from the German Society for Social Science Sex Research in 2004. Within the DGSS, he is also a member of the International Board of Trustees.

Weinberg conducts research in many areas of human sexuality. While homosexual research was in the foreground at the beginning , today this also includes female sexuality , premarital sex, foot fetishism , intersexuality , sadomasochism , prostitution and bisexuality . Many of his books have been translated, including several German-language editions. Deviance: The Interactionist Perspective and The Study of Social Problems are the books with the most national and international attention.
