Martin Schneider-Jacoby

Martin Schneider-Jacoby (born July 14, 1956 in Cuxhaven ; † August 15, 2012 in Radolfzell ) was a German conservationist and biologist.

Life

Schneider-Jacoby was involved as a youth in the youth of the DBV group Schwäbisch Hall (forerunner of NABU). Since 1971 he has been working on a voluntary basis in the Wollmatinger Ried nature reserve , where he was the first to do community service . He contributed to the establishment of the floating nature reserve Netta.

He then studied biology at the University of Konstanz and was then a doctoral candidate at the Radolfzell ornithological station . From 1989 until his death he worked as a project manager for the Euronatur environmental foundation. He was buried on August 25th in the Waldruh St. Katharinen.

Schneider-Jacoby did a lot with his work for nature conservation in the Balkans and for the protection of migratory birds and their habitats. He worked for the EuroNatur Foundation . In addition to the Sava- Auen (the largest river in Croatia and Slovenia), the Drau-Mur river system and the most important wetlands on the eastern Adriatic coast (in particular the Neretva Delta, Lake Skadar and Bojana-Buna Delta) were among his regional priorities . There he brought in his broad specialist knowledge of ornithology, landscape ecology, limnology and the development and management of nature reserves.

With his expertise, Schneider-Jacoby has contributed to the preparation and implementation of nature and national parks in various countries. For him, an important aspect in the management of large protected areas was the valorisation of natural and cultural landscapes, for example through nature tourism , sustainable regional development or nature-friendly flood protection.
