Martin Spahn (2019)

Martin Spahn (born January 7, 1967 in Kassel ) is a German urologist and university professor .

Career

Spahn studied between 1987 and 1993 at the university clinics in Frankfurt , Giessen , Hamburg and Chicago . He received his doctorate in 1996 on the topic of new gene sequences associated with growth factors in rat fibrosarcoma cells (University of Hamburg under Fritz Hölzel). In 2001 he completed his specialist training .

From 2006 to 2007 Spahn was Senior Consultant in Charge and Deputy Clinic Director of the Urological Clinic at the City Clinic of Karlsruhe . During this time he completed an optional further education in special urological surgery. In 2007 he moved to the Würzburg University Hospital as a senior consultant . There he completed his habilitation there in 2011 on clinical and molecular characterization of high-risk prostate cancer and he received the Venia Legendi for urology.

In 2012, Spahn became head physician in the urology department at Inselspital in Bern . An associated professorship at the University of Bern followed in 2016, and one year later he was appointed adjunct professor of urology at the University of Duisburg-Essen .

Spahn worked at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich from 2017 to 2019 . In 2019 he took up a position at Lindenhofspital Bern, where he works in the field of specialized urological surgery and Da Vinci-assisted robotic surgery .

Since 2019 Spahn has been a member of Swiss Surgery , a competence network for operative cancer treatment.

Honors and awards (selection)

The European Association of Urology presented Spahn with the International Urological Oncology Award in 2012 and the Cancer Research Award in 2015 for his achievements in the field of surgical treatment of prostate cancer and molecular characterization.

In 2008 and 2011 he received the first lecture award from the German Society for Urology for his work on prostate cancer and together with Dr. Arkadius Kocot and Prof. Hubertus Riedmiller for their work on urinary diversion in kidney transplant patients.
