Martin Spiewak
Martin Spiewak (* 1964 in Hamburg ) is a German science journalist .
Life
After graduating from the Sankt Ansgar School , he studied history, Spanish and constitutional law in Hamburg and Madrid . After graduating, he graduated from the German School of Journalism in Munich . From 1993 to 1997 he worked for the Deutsche Allgemeine Sonntagsblatt in Hamburg. After working as a freelance journalist for various newspapers, weeklies and radio stations, Spiewak has been an editor in the knowledge section of ZEIT since 1999 and a member of the weekly newspaper's capital city office since 2004.
His main topics are education policy, science and research. As a specialist in these topics, Spiewak also appears in other national media.
Prizes and awards
For his article “expensive patients undesirable”, published in ZEIT No. 46/99, he received the “special award for patient rights” from the health foundation . In 2001 he was awarded the Arthur Koestler Prize by the German Society for Human Dying. When ZEIT was awarded the Media Prize of the Education Action Council in 2006, Spiewak's work in the knowledge department was expressly highlighted in the laudation . In 2014 Spiewak received the first media award from the German Society for Educational Science (DGfE) for its “responsible, but at the same time critical” reporting on schools and universities. He also received the 2014 Reporter Prize in the Essay category for his article “We are not a problem child” in ZEIT . For the contribution “Who will make it to the top?” He received the media prize for educational journalism from the Deutsche Telekom Foundation .
