Martin Johan Julius Weibull (born December 24, 1835 in Landskrona , † April 17, 1902 in Lund ) was a Swedish historian .

Life

Martin Weibull became a lecturer in Lund in 1862, associate professor in 1877 and full professor in 1888. His main works are:

  • Sveriges förbund med Frankrike 1672 , Lund 1865
  • Lunds universitets historia 1668–1868 , written together with Elof Tegnér , 2 volumes, Lund 1868–76
  • Gustaf II Adolf , Stockholm 1882; 2nd ed. 1894
  • Från Lund och Lundagård , posthumously, Stockholm 1902

His treatises, published in Acta universitatis Lundensis (1870, 1892 and 1894) and in Svensk Historisk Tidskrift (1883 and 1887–88), are mostly valuable contributions to the history of Christina of Sweden. He also published several documents on the history of his home province of Scania and edited the provincial magazine Samlingar, etc. , which appeared under different titles from 1869–80 and 1894–97. Politically, Weibull was one of the last representatives of so-called Greater Scandinavianism. His sons Lauritz Weibull (1873-1960) and Curt Weibull (1886-1991) were also historians.
