Martin Woker

Martin Woker (born June 24, 1953 in Zurich ) is a Swiss ethnologist and journalist . From 2009 to 2013 he headed the international section of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ).

Life

Woker grew up in Küsnacht , Zurich and Wetzikon and, after training as a primary school teacher and then doing a short real-life teaching job, completed various language stays in Geneva and the United States. In addition to studying ethnology at the University of Zurich , he worked as a freelance journalist for Radio DRS and the Tages-Anzeiger-Magazin from 1978 onwards . After taking part in various missions in Thailand , Cambodia , Namibia , Lebanon and Palestine as an ICRC delegate from 1984 , he joined the NZZ foreign editorial team in autumn 1990, where he was responsible for the Middle East and Turkey . He interrupted this activity for two years to move to NZZ Folio . From 2001 to 2009 he was a correspondent for Southeastern Europe reporting from Zagreb . From mid-2009 to the end of June 2013, he headed the NZZ foreign editorial team. Since summer 2013 he has been a correspondent for reports for NZZ based in Zurich.
