Martin Ziermann

Martin Ziermann (* 1955 in Preetz ) is a German building researcher .

Martin Ziermann studied architecture and prehistory as well as Islamic art and archeology at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London at the University of Hanover . In 1982 he completed his studies as a graduate engineer in Hanover . From 1982 to 1984 he taught as an academic advisor at the Technical University of Munich . 1990 took place in Hanover with the PhD thesis Elephantine. Fortifications and urban development in the early days and in the early Old Kingdom the doctorate. Between 1992 and 1995, Ziermann researched Upper Egyptian cities from the 3rd millennium BC on a grant from the German Research Foundation . And completed his habilitation with the work Aspects of the Egyptian City in the 3rd millennium BC. Chr. Natural spatial, urban and building planning structures of the early period and the old empire based on the archaeological building findings , again in Hanover. From 1995 to 1998 he was senior assistant at the TU Dresden . In 1999 he worked for the Working Group for Building and Soil Assessment and in 2001 took a teaching position at the University of Mainz . Since 2002 he has been an honorary professor at the University of Cologne .

Martin Ziermann led several excavation campaigns in Elephantine . He researches the ancient, medieval and modern settlement history and architecture in Europe, Africa and the Near and Middle East of Asia as well as the history and didactics of engineering.
