Martin Zimmer (born March 8, 1970 ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach.

Player career

Martin Zimmer played in his youth for the Friedenauer TSC , VfL Schöneberg and Hertha Zehlendorf before he moved to Hertha BSC's A-youth in 1987 . At Hertha he played for the first time in October 1988 in a test match against Türkiyemspor under Werner Fuchs, who had been newly appointed two weeks earlier . However, Zimmer was unable to earn a regular place and did not play his first competitive game until the final phase of the 1990/91 Bundesliga season under Karsten Heine . Only one more league appearance followed, and in the season after relegation Zimmer no longer played a role for Hertha's professionals.

That's why Zimmer went to league rivals SV Meppen in 1992 . Under Horst Ehrmantraut Zimmer completed 22 games for SVM in 1992/93 .

In 1993 Zimmer moved back to Berlin and went to 1. FC Union Berlin . There Frank Pagelsdorf put him in the major league, however, in no league game.

Thus, after only one season, Zimmer moved to Spandauer SV , which he left after three years for Hertha 03, where Martin Zimmer let his playing career end.

Coaching career

After his playing career, Zimmer made a coaching license and became a base coach. He also worked as a trainer in the youth division of BFC Preussen and Hertha Zehlendorf . Then Martin Zimmer took over the U16s at 1. FC Union Berlin , which he trained until the beginning of 2011 before taking over the U17s of the club.

At the same time, he trains young players in Theo Gries' youth soccer school .

Since summer 2016 he has been coaching the U17s of SV Tasmania Berlin.

Private

In addition, Martin Zimmer plays regularly for the Hertha BSC senior team.
