Martina Freytag

Martina Freytag (born July 12, 1969 in Sondershausen ) is a German author , jazz singer , choir director , composer , arranger and workshop leader .

Life

Martina Freytag grew up in a family of musicians and was on stage as a singer, reciter and instrumentalist from the age of 6. In 1979 she played the leading role in the play The Face of Simone Machard by Bertolt Brecht on the stages of the city of Gera . She studied jazz and pop singing, music theory and composition at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar , was a scholarship holder (including the Fulbright Commission ), at the American Institute of Music (AIM) in Vienna and at the Berklee College of Music in Boston .

Freytag has been teaching singing (popular styles), songwriting, music theory and advising singers, musicians and music directors on their professional development since 1992. Her teaching activities took her to the dance and singing studio at the Theater an der Wien , to the FMW Frankfurter Musikwerkstatt and to the Jazz & Rock Schools Freiburg and the Jazz School Basel . She gave singing and choir workshops and gave lectures on vocal technique, style of popular music and the evaluation of pop and jazz voices.

Freytag has been leading pop, jazz, ethnic choirs and vocal ensembles since 1991. She was a finalist at the 1993 Federal Singing Competition and received the International Association of Jazz Educators' Award for Outstanding Work in Jazz Education, which was presented to her in New Orleans in 2000 . She was also a juror at Jugend musiziert in the pop song category , at the Thurgau Music Competition in Switzerland, at the European Youth Musical Festival and at choir competitions. <She composed and directed the musical The Groupies and the soccer musical Goalgetter Soulgetter . Since 1992 she has also worked as a specialist and non-fiction author, publishes choir arrangements and writes reviews for music publications. When “ hiking and singing ” with Marlene Klisch, she leads the singing programs at natural sites in Switzerland.

Martina Freytag has lived in Hinterzarten since 1997 and has been married to the musician Steffen Weber-Freytag since 1998 , with whom she has a daughter.
