Martyniwka ( Ukrainian Мартинівка ; Russian Мартыновка Martynowka ) is a village in the Ukrainian Cherkassy Oblast with about 1,300 inhabitants (2001).
The village, founded in the 18th century, is located in the south of Kaniv Rajon, 23 km southwest of Kaniw and 75 km northwest of Cherkassy . Martyniwka is the administrative center of the district council of the same name , which also includes the village of Darivka ( Дарівка ⊙ ) with about 170 inhabitants. In 1909 the Martynivka treasure from the 6th or 7th century was found near the village and is now in the National Historical Museum of Ukraine in Kiev and in the British Museum in London .
Personalities
In 1856, the Polish politician and founder of the first Polish workers' party "Proletariat" Ludwik Waryński was born in Martyniwka, then Martynówka .
