Marx Schickhardt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marx Schickhardt (born April 25, 1505 in Herrenberg ; † 1555 there ) was an art carpenter from Württemberg . He was a son of the carver Heinrich Schickhardt the Elder , a brother of the painter Hans Schickhardt and an uncle of the famous builder Heinrich Schickhardt .

Life

Marx Schickhardt was a son of Heinrich Schickhardt and his wife Margreta geb. Homel. He learned the carpentry trade from his father. In contrast to him, who repeatedly carried out artistic work, Marx largely limited himself to the craft. He is mentioned for the first time in 1526 in the tax lists as a carpenter. At first he worked as a journeyman in his father's workshop. So he helped him in 1537 when he was commissioned in connection with the iconoclasm to dismantle his choir stalls and remove them from the church. After his father's death in 1540, he took over his workshop. In 1548/49 he was commissioned with the restoration of the altar by Jörg Ratgeb in the Herrenberg collegiate church and repaired damage to both altars and the panels in the presbytery . Some of this was painting; he drew the “ English greeting ” on one board and a “tail” on another. He also repeatedly received orders from the city (invoices from 1552/53 and 1555/56).

His son Paul Schickhardt (* 1548; † November 29, 1609), a long-time pastor in Mittelstadt , was the first academic among the Swabian Schickhardts.
