Mary Honeyball (born November 12, 1952 in Weymouth ) has been a MEP for the Labor Party for London in the Socialist Group in the European Parliament since 2000 . She graduated from Somerville College , Oxford University .

Career

In 1975 Honeyball graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in contemporary history . Between 1978 and 1986 she was a member of the Barnet Borough Council in London . From 1978 to 1994 she served on the board of directors of various schools in the London boroughs of Barnet and Lewisham . 1982–1986 she chaired the Labor Party Women's Committee in London, and from 1985–1998 was a member of the Political Committee on Cooperative Services in the same city. From 1986 to 1990 she was Secretary General of the Council for Voluntary Service in the Newham district of London .

1990–1992 Honeyball was the manager of SCOPE, a charitable organization for the disabled . From 1992 to 1994 she was a member of the National Association of Women's Organizations and chairwoman of the board of Gingerbread, a group that supports single parents. Between 1994 and 1998 she took over the general secretariat in the Association of Probation Officers. From 1998-2000, Mary Honeyball was the treasurer of EMILY's List, UK, which advocates more Labor women in Parliament . From 2000 to 2003 she was a board member of the Labor Party's Women's Committee, and from the same date until 2004 she was also a member of the National Politics Forum of the same party.

The politician was better known as a reporter for the Honeyball report named after her. This is a report by the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality on "Sexual exploitation and prostitution and its implications for gender equality".
The Honeyball Report argues, among other things, that prostitution is a form of sexual slavery and violence by men against women, and that half of the suitors buy sex even though the prostitutes are minors, that 80-95% of all prostitutes in some form Violence such as rape , incest , pedophilia , and that prostitution and forced prostitution are inextricably linked to the inequality of the sexes in society.
Accordingly, the report calls for the criminalization and punishment of suitors and calls for prostitution legislation based on the Swedish model .
The European Parliament passed a resolution on February 26, 2014 with 343 votes in favor, 139 against and 105 abstentions.
