Massango is a small town and county in Angola .
Place name
The place takes its name from the regional name of the same name for Omahangu , a common type of millet .
history
The place was named Forte República under Portuguese colonial administration . It became the seat of its own circle on December 27, 1961. After Angola's independence in 1975, the place dropped its Portuguese place name and has since borne its current name.

Massango is the seat of a district of the same name ( Município ) in the province of Malanje . The district covers an area of 7569 km² with 27,866 inhabitants (extrapolated estimate 2011). From now on, the 2014 census should provide reliable population data.
The Massango district is made up of three municipalities (Comunas):
- Kihuhu
- Kinguengue
- Massango
317 villages are in the Massango district. In addition to the municipal seats, Uoleca, Macongo, Lusitano, Quimbungo and Guvu are among the most important.
