Matat ( Hebrew מתת) is a small town in northern Israel, near the Lebanese border , in the Regional Council Ma'ale Yosef and lies between the cities of Maʿalot-Tarshiha and Safed .

The village was founded in 1979 by a few families belonging to an organization called HaSukah and has 191 residents in 2018, many of whom are employed in agriculture or local industries. Another source of income is tourism.

The name Matat means in Gematria 840, its altitude in meters. The altitude and the mountainous region give the place a relatively balanced climate. Summer temperatures rarely rise above 25 ° C, the humidity is low and the nights are also cool. Winters are cold and wet, with an average annual rainfall of 800mm, including occasional snowfall.

During the 2006 Lebanon War , Hezbollah shot at the town with rockets.
