history

In July 1916, three of the shark attacks on the New Jersey coast (1916) that caused a stir throughout the nation occurred in the vicinity of Matawan . Two of the three victims, all of whom were swimming in Matawan Creek , were killed. To date, these shark attacks are among those that have occurred most inland. There is scientific consensus that only bull sharks or a great white shark are eligible for these attacks.
