Mateusz Pacewicz

Mateusz Pacewicz (born June 21, 1992 in Warsaw ) is a Polish writer and screenwriter .

Life

Mateusz Pacewicz was born in Warsaw in 1992. His father Piotr Pacewicz is one of the founders and editors of the daily newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza and is currently the director of the portal OKO.press, a Polish website for investigative journalism. His mother is an activist for the Center for Citizenship Education Foundation and an author of school books. Pacewicz traveled the world after completing his bachelor's degree in humanities and social sciences at the College of Inter-Area at Warsaw University . Later he studied at the Polish School of Reportage and before his final exams had the idea of ​​dealing with the story of a young man who had been released from a juvenile detention center and who was living in the parish of St. Andrzej Bobola in Budziska in the Masovian Voivodeship as Priest had spent. In January 2014 he published an article about it in Gazeta Wyborcza , followed by the e-book Kazanie na dole (also Sermon at the bottom ).

He subsequently wrote the story-based screenplay for the film Corpus Christi , directed by Jan Komasa and which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2019 . For this screenplay Pacewicz received an award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and received two prizes as part of the Polish Film Prize . Corpus Christi was also submitted by Poland as an entry for the Academy Awards 2020 in the category Best International Film and was nominated in this category by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in mid-January 2020 .

He also worked with Komasa for The Hater . For the film, he reworked the theme of Komasa's Suicide Room . The Hater moves in the same universe as this film.

In late June 2020, Pacewicz became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
