The Math College was a private didactic institute for computer-aided general education in Germany, founded as a partnership (GbR) on December 19, 1996 in Rudolstadt ( Thuringia ). Areas of activity were the conceptual advice of companies with products (new media and technologies) for general education, nationwide teacher training measures in mathematics, the development of didactic concepts for the use of modern technologies and the development and testing of teaching materials for computer-aided mathematics lessons and entertainment a tutoring institute. The word mark "Math College" was registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office in Munich and is the property of the founding members.

The institute was closed on August 31, 2005. The affiliated mail order business ended on August 31, 2010.

history

After the institute was founded in Rudolstadt (Thuringia), its headquarters were relocated to Hanover (Lower Saxony) in February 1997 . In July 2001 the company settled in Sangerhausen (Saxony-Anhalt) and in August 2005 in Wertheim (Baden-Württemberg).

Preparation and conception began in 1992. Initially - only - the establishment of an institute for computer-aided learning ( e-learning ) to support schoolchildren and students in the Hanover region was planned. This project could also be realized from April 1997 and differed primarily in the conceptual approach and the implementation of the support hours from other institutions in the tutoring area . In the course of daily work, it turned out that most of the teachers in general education schools had insufficient skills in dealing with new media and computers . Hence the idea of offering advanced training for the subject of mathematics with and on computers and (graphic) pocket calculators (also with a computer algebra system ).

An overview of the level of knowledge and the needs of the newly discovered target group could be obtained at regional and national exhibitions and international trade fairs. Since there was a lack of suitable software and hardware and, above all, meaningful specialist literature, a nationwide mail order company was founded for these products in September 1998 and everything available from various publishers and manufacturers was brought together. Since then, the Math College has presented itself at almost all regional and national school fairs in German-speaking countries. From 2000 an online shop with the name math-college-shop.de was opened.

Reference partners of the institute included the Ferd. Dümmlers Verlag Bonn, Texas Instruments , Sharp , Casio , Mathsoft International .

Publications

The Math College publications were self- published until 1999 , then in Schumann's publishing house .
