Maurice Guiraud-Rivière (born February 10, 1881 in Toulouse , France , † 1947 ) was a French painter , draftsman and sculptor .

Life

Guiraud-Rivière first went to sea at the age of 15, and then became an actor at the age of 20. The nephew of the sculptor Theodore Rivière then studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris as a student of Antonin Mercié .

The sculptor created numerous chryselephantine statuettes in bronze and ivory in the Art Deco style , some of which were enamelled . In addition to his female files, he illustrated topics from sports, aviation and the automotive world. Most of his work was handcrafted and sold by the Edmond Etling art foundry . Also Les Neveux de Jules Lehmann and André Fau were for him as Éditeur d'art active (art publisher). Some of Guiraud-Rivière's work was purchased by the French state and the city of Paris, including David laçonte la fronde and Enigme .

Guiraud-Rivière was also known for his hood ornament, created between 1919 and 1930 . In addition, between 1911 and 1923 he designed porcelain figures for the Manufacture royale de porcelaine de Sèvres and Robj .

A trip to Morocco in 1933 inspired the painter Guiraud-Rivière to create some orientalist watercolors. After his trip, he made posters for the Moroccan Railway Company and Air France . He also produced drawings and illustrations for several magazines. He is less known as a graphic artist of humorous picture stories.

At the Société du Salon d'Automne , Guiraud-Rivière showed his work Groupe de combatants and Danseuse Espagnole in 1906 . In 1907 he exhibited at the Salon des Société des Artistes Français and the Salon des Humoristes. In 1914 he received an honorable mention there . He continued his exhibition activities in the Société des Artistes Français in the 1920s and 1930s and also took part in the Paris World Exhibition in 1937 .
