Mathew Anikuzhikattil

Mathew Anikuzhikattil (born September 23, 1942 in Kunchithanny , † May 1, 2020 in Kolenchery ) was an Indian clergyman and Syro-Malabar bishop of Idukki .

Life

Mathew Anikuzhikattil received on 15 March 1971, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On January 15, 2003, Pope John Paul II appointed him the first Bishop of Idukki. The Syro-Malabar Grand Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly, Varkey Cardinal Vithayathil CSsR , donated him episcopal ordination on March 2 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Kothamangalam , George Punnakottil , and the Bishop of Palai , Joseph Pallikaparampil .

On January 12, 2018, Pope Francis accepted Mathew Anikuzhikattil's motion to resign on grounds of age.
