Mathias Mönius

Mathias Mönius (* 1963 in Forchheim ) is a German conductor and pianist .

Live and act

Mönius was born in Forchheim in 1963 . At the age of eight, Mönius learned to play the piano from his father. As a schoolboy he played in a jazz band. Mönius first studied ancient history and completed his studies with a master's degree . On the side, Mönius worked as a jazz musician. In 1990 Mönius played the piano for a recording of hits from the 20s and 30s. After his band was engaged at the theater in Nuremberg , Mönius began studying music at the Berlin University of the Arts in 1991 , which he completed in 1995. In 1996, Mönius directed the world premiere of the opera Das Jahrmarktsfest zu Plundersweilern , directed by Winfried Bauernfeind, at the Rheinsberg Castle Chamber Opera . The opera based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was created as a joint composition by Julian Klein , Tatjana Komarowa, Markus Schmitt , Stefan Stoll and Sabine Wüsthoff. At the Staatstheater Braunschweig he was a solo coach with conducting duties. In 2000 he became a director of studies with a conducting obligation at the Meiningen State Theater . In 2007 he became first conductor and deputy general music director at the State Theater in Eisenach . In 2009 he became director of studies and conductor at the Nordhausen Theater / Loh Orchestra in Sondershausen . Since the 2012/2013 season Mönius has been director of studies and conductor at the Landestheater Detmold .

Mönius has made guest appearances as a conductor or pianist at the State Opera Unter den Linden , in Cape Town , Toronto , Italy, France, Holland, Great Britain and Switzerland.
