Mathias Ruppnig

Mathias Ruppnig (born December 28, 1986 in Oberpullendorf ) is an Austrian jazz musician ( drums , composition ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Ruppnig had lessons in drums and classical percussion with Günter Meinhart from 1992–98; During his school days he played in various rock, pop and punk rock bands. He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Bachelor degree 2012 with distinction); he then completed his master's degree at this university with Howard Curtis . In 2012 he presented his debut album with his own compositions ( Square , Session Work Records), followed by The Spinning (Session Work, 2013). At the Down Beat Student Music Award in 2014 he was a member of the KUG Composers Ensemble feat. Marco Antonio da Costa honored in the Latin Group category.

After completing his studies in Graz in 2014 "with distinction", Ruppnig became a member of the European Jazz Orchestra of the European Broadcasting Union as a representative of the ORF . The album Radio Liberty (Listen Closely Records) was released in 2015 with the quartet DACH . In the following years he played in the formation Scopes (with Ben van Gelder, Tony Tixier and Tom Berkmann) and in the European Quartet by Tobias My Hart . Ruppnig currently lives in Berlin, where he a. a. performs with his Mathias Ruppnig Standards Trio .
