from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mathou , actually Rainer Matuschek , (born March 30, 1950 in Bleidenstadt ; † November 26, 2010 in Berlin ) was a German gallery owner , art dealer , pianist , songwriter and singer .

Live and act

He became known for his title song You Never Walk Alone of the ZDF television series Friends for Life , which was number 16 in the German charts for a week in early 1993. He dedicated this song to his three sons David, Luca and Leon. In the same year the song was recognized as the most successful television tune.

Mathou, who composed other theme songs for German television, recorded the duet Keep the Candle Burning in Los Angeles with soul and disco singer Thelma Houston , which however did not reach the German charts. He later went on tour with Houston. Subsequent CD releases by Mathou were also not commercial successes - the artist remained a one-hit wonder .

In 1974 Mathou founded an art publisher with the aim of bringing together texts, images and music. His art portfolio West Side Story , which was created in collaboration with Leonard Bernstein , was also a great success. Mathou died on November 26, 2010 after a brief, serious illness.
