Mathurin Moreau (born November 18, 1822 in Dijon , † 1912 in Paris ) was a French sculptor .

Life

His father was the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Louis Josephe Moreau , who had already made a name for himself as a sculptor in Dijon. In addition to his father's, Mathurin Moreau was also a student of Jules Ramey and Augustin-Alexandre Dumont . Mathurin Moreau created monuments in Angers , Beaune , Dijon , and Nuits-Saint-Georges . He created numerous sculptures for the churches of St. Augustin and La Trinité in Paris; also for the representative buildings in Paris, such as the Paris Opera . There are also works by Mathurin Moreau in the museums of Dijon and Marseille as well as in the Army History Museum in Vienna .

Moreau's sculptures have been traded in the four to five-digit dollar range at auctions and trade fairs since the 1970s.
