Mati Raidma (born April 7, 1965 in Iisaku , Ida-Viru County , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian politician . Raidma belongs to the liberal Estonian Reform Party ( Estonian Eesti Reformierakond ). From November 2014 to April 2015 he was Estonian Minister of the Environment.

life and career

Mati Raidma attended school in Nõo until 1983 . He graduated from the Leningrad Fire Brigade Technical College in 1986 . In 1993 he finished his studies at the higher fire department in Moscow as an engineer for fire fighting technology and fire protection. There he received his doctorate in 2005.

His first work experience led him from 1986 to 1992 at the Pärnu fire department . From 1992 to 2000, Mati Raidma was the deputy director of the Estonian Rescue Service ( Päästeamet ), which, as the highest authority, coordinates the work of the rescue services in Estonia. From 2000 to 2006 he was director of the agency.

In 2006/2007 Raidma worked as an advisor to Prime Minister Andrus Ansip in the Estonian State Chancellery. At the same time he joined the Reform Party. From 2007 to 2014 Raidma was a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). Among other things, he was chairman of the Defense Committee.

From November 17, 2014 to April 9, 2015, Mati Raidma was Estonian Environment Minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas . After leaving the cabinet, he returned as a member of the Estonian parliament.

Private life

Mati Raidma is married and has three children.
