Matt Pond PA is an American indie band originally from Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , now from New York . The PA in the band name is an abbreviation for the US state of Pennsylvania. The band uses the abbreviation mpPA .

history

The founding members alongside Matthew Pond were Josh Kramer, Rosie McNamara-Jones and Sean Byrne, who was a former member of Lenola and The Twin Atlas . In 1998, the band released their debut album Deer Apartments on Lancaster Records , which in the same year received widespread attention in CDNows Unheard? Competition for artists without a record contract. In 2000 the follow-up album Measure was published at File 13 . After a constantly changing line-up, Jim Hostetter and Mike Kennedy stayed with the band for a long time. Matt Raisch and Jim Kehoe from the band Rhode Island joined them later. Eventually, Eve Miller from The Rachel's completed the lineup. In 2001 the group signed with Polyvinyl Records . In 2003 Pond moved to New York City, so the band broke up and looked for new band members on site. It finally found Dana Feder, Steve Jewett and Dan Crowell, with whom he released the albums Emblems and Several Arrows Later between 2003 and 2006 at Altitude Records , which were well received by the critics. In mid-2007 there was another change in the line-up, which also brought changes in musical terms with it. Dana Feder left the band, followed by Chris Hansen. While Matt Pond PA's music has borrowed a lot from folk rock and singer-songwriter so far, the album Last Lights became rockier, while the cello that was often used in the past is completely missing. From the end of September 2007 the band toured the USA for two months and was also in Japan for the first time in early December. In late 2008, The Freeep EP was released as a free download from Matt Pond's website. At the end of 2009 Matt Pond brought out a single again with Starting after a long break . In April 2010 another album followed with the title The Dark Leaves .

Matt Pond PA has performed with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists , Nickel Creek , Youth Group , Mae , Keane , Guster , Dios Malos and Liz Phair . The group's music was featured on the soundtrack for the FOX TV series O. C., California . The formation is known for their special cover versions of Champagne Supernova ( Oasis ) and In the Airplane over the Sea ( Neutral Milk Hotel ).

Trivia

  • A special feature of Matt Pond PA is its closeness to nature, which is expressed in the texts and in the layout of all the panels, which are mostly green or brown in color and contain many animal and plant motifs.
  • In 2007 Matt Pond, Steve Jewett and Dan Crowell started a side project called "The Dark Leaves". The resulting songs could then be accessed on a dedicated myspace page. Later, all songs were revised again and published on the 2010 album The Dark Leaves .
