Matteo Gentili (born August 21, 1989 in Viareggio ) is an Italian football player . The defender has been under contract with Reggina Calcio since summer 2013 .

Career

Gentili went through the youth department of Atalanta Bergamo before joining the club's professional squad in 2008. In the same year he was awarded to the lower class club US Pergocrema . This played in 2008/09 in the Lega Pro Prima Divisione , the third highest class in Italy. Gentili returned without use in the summer of 2009, but was immediately awarded again in this league, to AS Varese 1910 . With Varese he won second place and the relegation to Serie B . With a 0: 1 and 2: 0 against US Cremonese , the club managed to rise. Gentili came regularly to match practice this season, but without being a regular player. In 2010/11 he was back in the Atalanta Bergamo squad, where he only played one league. In the summer of 2011, the defensive player moved to Spezia Calcio and left his youth club for good.

National team

Gentili was a national player in various junior teams in Italy. With the U-19 he made it into the final of the European Championship in 2008 . There he was in the starting line-up in the game against Germany . Gentili received an early yellow card and was finally sent off in the 69th minute with a yellow-red card . Italy lost the game 3-1.

In 2009 the defender was part of the U-20 squad for the World Cup in Egypt . Italy reached the quarter-finals, with Gentili playing in all four possible games. When eliminated against Hungary, he was one of four players who were sent off.
