Matthew Ramsden, who is from Western Australia , first competed in the running disciplines in 2013. At the Australian U17 championships in Perth, he finished eighth over 3000 meters. A year later he was able to improve his best time on this route by almost 15 seconds, in 2015 by more than 20 seconds to 8: 09.07 min. That spring he took part in the U20 race as part of the World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang, but could not finish the race. In 2016 he won two gold medals in the 1500 and 5000 meters at the Australian U20 championships. In July he competed at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz over both distances . Over 1500 meters he made it into the final, in which he reached the finish in sixth. Two days later he finished 15th over 5000 meters in 14: 15.35 minutes. From then on, he mainly focused on the 1500-meter run. In 2019, he decided to start a professional career in athletics and then refused, among other things, scholarships from US elite universities to become part of their sports teams. In March he started again at the Cross Country World Championships , this time in the adult race over 10 kilometers, which he finished in 39th place. In June, Ramsden set a new record of 3: 35.85 minutes in Lahti, which has been recorded since then. At the end of the month he was able to win the gold medal at the Oceania Championships over 1500 meters . As a result, he succeeded in qualifying for the World Championships in Doha, to which he came as 15th on the annual world best list. However, he fell after 80 meters in the lead and would theoretically have been eliminated from his goal with his time. The protest from his association was successful, however, whereupon the jury gave him a wildcard for the semifinals. In the semifinals, however, he was eliminated, extremely narrowly, as eighth of his run, although he ran the second fastest time of his season in it. Overall, he finished 15th.
