Matthias Anton (born May 27, 1979 in Filderstadt ) is a German saxophonist and university teacher .

Life

Matthias Anton grew up in Trossingen , began to play the harmonica and piano at the age of seven and was taught at the youth music school there and by private teachers. He discovered his passion for the saxophone at the age of 12 through his father and grandfather, who both also played the saxophone. He received private lessons from Elmar Schäfer (1991–1996) and Tom Timmler (1996–1998). Martin Kneer brought him into the big band and the combo of the Trossingen high school; At the same time, he completed a preliminary course at the University of Trossingen as a preliminary student in the field of jazz and popular music with a major in piano. After graduating from high school in 1998, he studied saxophone at the Mannheim University of Music with Jürgen Seefelder from 1998–2002 , where he completed his diploma. This was followed by a KA degree from 2002–2005 at the Stuttgart University of Music with Bernd Konrad .

In the BundesJazzOrchester (BuJazzo) he played as lead alto from 1999 to 2003 and briefly led the orchestra (October 2003) on behalf of Peter Herbolzheimer at two concerts with WDR recordings. He also played in the LandesjugendJazzOrchester BW as lead alto (1997–99), as well as in the Glenn Miller Big Band, Swing Time Big Band, Big Band Convention, Summit Orchestra and the HP Ockert Big Band.

Since the end of the 1990s he has played in the Keechero formation (1998–2001), 2002–2005 with his own quartet, and in the projects Zabblphilipp (with Philipp Moehrke, 2001–06), Playstation (with Patrick Müller, 2002–07) and Duo projects with Philipp Moehrke (since 2006), Patrick “Paco” Müller (since 2007), Peter Hastedt (Gregorian improvisations for saxophone & organ) and Hans-Günther Kölz “Voyage” (since 2010).

Since 2007 he has headed the Matthias Anton Group ; He is also artistic director of the K3 series (since 2006), initiator of the encounter between the BundesJazzOrchester meets Musikhochschule Trossingen (since 2007), artistic director and composer of Agathe's Diary ( Freischütz meets Black Raider - a project of the Musikhochschule Trossingen). He was also the artistic director of the 4th Jazz Summit of the Konstanzer Gymnasien 2009 and the concert series "Jazz am Neckar" for the State Garden Show Villingen-Schwenningen 2010 .

Since 2005 he has been teaching saxophone at the State University of Music Trossingen , where he has been an honorary professor for saxophone since July 2010.

family

Matthias Anton is a grandson of the writer Herbert Walz . The sociologist Andreas Anton is his younger brother.

Prices

In 1997 he received the Outstanding Musician Award and a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music . With the band "Keechero" he was awarded the first federal prize at Jugend jazzt in 1999 and became a member of "Keechero" in the Menuhin Foundation as the first jazz band ever. In 2007 he was a finalist in the Yamaha Saxophone Contest and was awarded first prize at the Sibiu Contest Jazz Festival in 2008 . In 2009 he received the Blue Genius audience award at the 5th International Media Festival VS-Villingen.
