Matthias Benoni Hering (born February 19, 1693 in Zwilipp near Kolberg, † January 13, 1750 in Rostock ) was a German professor of law .

Life

Matthias Benoni was a son of the Protestant pastor Matthias Hering in Zwilipp. H. attended the Lyceum in Kolberg until 1713 and studied theology , philosophy and philology at the Gymnasium in Danzig until 1720 . Then he went to the University of Rostock and from 1723 turned to jurisprudence. In 1728 he passed his exam, and on November 10, 1730, Hering was awarded his doctorate in law in Rostock . He then worked in Rostock as a private lecturer and lawyer.

In July 1733 he was appointed professor to succeed Johann Joachim Schöpffer . A month later he married Sophie Judith Schweder. Both set up the Hering-Swedish scholarship for students with 1000 thalers . After he was appointed consistorial councilor in 1743, Hering was also appointed provisional at the monastery of the Holy Cross in Rostock .

Hering was elected Rector of the University of Rostock in the summer semesters 1737, 1743 and 1746.
