Matthias Hagner (born August 15, 1974 in Gießen ) is a former German soccer player and coach .

Club career

Hagner began his career as a footballer with his hometown club FC Burgsolms . From there he moved to Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt in 1992 . There he achieved his best personal record with ten goals in the 1995/96 season , but rose with the unity.

Between 1996 and 1998 he played for VfB Stuttgart , with whom he won the 1997 DFB Cup . He then worked for Borussia Mönchengladbach for two years , where he was relegated for the second time in 1999. He then played for Greuther Fürth between 2001 and December 2002 . There he was unable to assert himself and only played ten games in the two years in Fürth .

After a year with the upper division FSV Frankfurt , a three-year engagement with the second division 1. FC Saarbrücken followed. After his relegation to the Regionalliga Süd , Hagner moved back to FSV Frankfurt in the Oberliga Hessen. With the FSV he made it through to the 2nd Bundesliga between 2006 and 2008 . For the 2009/10 season Hagner moved to Eintracht Wetzlar in the Association League Hessen Center and rose with the club at the end of the season in the Hessen League . Due to differences of opinion, Hagner left the club for the winter break of the 2010/11 season.

Hagner played a total of 102 Bundesliga games with 22 goals and 79 games with nine goals in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Coaching career

In the 2011/12 season, Hagner coached the Central Hessian league club VfB Gießen , after having gained experience with the second team of FSV Frankfurt between 2006 and 2007 . After his engagement in Giessen, he looked after the Hessen league club FSV Braunfels in the 2012/13 season . For the 2013/14 season, Hagner signed a one-year contract in mid-April as coach of the second team of Sportfreunde Siegen , where he inherited Daniel Cartus . After Michael Boris moved to Sportfreunde Lotte in January 2014, Hagner took over his position as head coach of the first team. On November 3, 2014, Hagner was dismissed as the Sportfreunde coach after only two wins out of ten games. His successor was again Michael Boris. He then started as the youth coach of JFV FC Aar and since 2018 he has been training the E-youth of SSC Juno Burg.

Personal

Hagner is married and has 4 children. He has been studying sports psychology at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen since 2015 .
