Matthias Kerkhoff (* 3. September 1979 in Meschede ) is a German politician of the CDU , who since 2012 member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia is.

Life

Kerkhoff is the son of a banker and a teacher . After graduating from high school of the Benedictines in Meschede and doing community service in his hometown of Olsberg , Matthias Kerkhoff studied political science , history and public law at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . He wrote his master's thesis on a subject of temporary work . He then worked from July 2005 to the end of 2006 as a research assistant for the CDU state parliament members from South Westphalia . Between 2007 and 2010 he worked as a consultant for corporate and social policy for the Westphalia-Mitte business association in Arnsberg . From 2011 until his election to the state parliament, Kerkhoff was then an advisor to the general manager of the state association of business associations in North Rhine-Westphalia and the association of the metal and electrical industry in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Political party

Matthias Kerkhoff joined the Junge Union in 1994 and the CDU in 1998 . From 1996 he was a member of the JU district board, and until 2000 he was also chairman of the local association in Olsberg. In 2002 he was elected district chairman of the Junge Union in the Hochsauerland district and also a member of the CDU district executive. In 2006 he gave up the office of JU chairman against that of deputy CDU district chairman, which he held until 2010. Since 2009, Kerkhoff has also been an assessor in the CDU district executive committee for South Westphalia. He is also a member of the local and city council of the CDU Olsberg and head of the business / medium-sized business group. In 2015 he was elected chairman of the CDU district association Hochsauerland. He is also a member of the state board of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia .

Member of the state parliament

After the previous member of the state parliament, Hubert Kleff, announced that he would no longer run in the early state elections in 2012 , the CDU Hochsauerland elected Matthias Kerkhoff at a delegates' conference on March 28, 2012 as their candidate for the constituency of Hochsauerlandkreis II . In the election on May 13, he ran against SPD opponent Ferdinand Wiegelmann and five other direct candidates and achieved 47.3 percent of the first votes. In doing so, he defended his constituency for the CDU and moved into the Düsseldorf state parliament as a directly elected member.

In the state elections in May 2017 , Kerkhoff was re-elected to the state parliament as a direct candidate in constituency 125 (Hochsauerlandkreis II). He won the direct mandate with 56.5% of the first votes . Since June 2017 he has been the parliamentary managing director of the CDU state parliamentary group.
