Matthias Morack (born July 13, 1962 ) is a former German soccer player . For 1. FC Union Berlin , he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association .

Career

Morack began his football career at the age of ten in 1972 with the company sports community (BSG) Turbine Potsdam. After he had become eligible to play for the men's area, he played for the BSG Turbine in the third-rate district league . In 1982/83 he moved for one season to BSG Stahl Brandenburg in the second-rate GDR league . Then Morack played from the summer of 1983 to the autumn of 1986 for BSG Motor Babelsberg , also in the GDR league. As a defender, he won a regular place there.

In October 1986, after Morack had already played seven point games in the new season for Babelsberg, the first division club 1. FC Union Berlin Morack's move to the club. On October 18, 1986, Morack completed his first league game as a right defender in the game 1. FC Union - FC Vorwärts Frankfurt (1: 1). He was then regularly used as a defender until the winter break, but then fell out of the second half of the season due to an injury. In the course of the 1987/88 season, Morack also developed into a regular at Union and came to 20 league appearances in this season. After he had played the first eight point games at the beginning of the 1988/89 season, he had to start his military service in November 1988.

He completed this at the top football club of the GDR Army Sports Association , the GDR league club FC Vorwärts Frankfurt (Oder) . For FC Vorwärts Morack played 16 times in the second division until October 1989. On November 7, 1989, two days before the GDR borders opened, he and his wife fled to Bavaria via Czechoslovakia. Attempts to get a contract with TSV Munich 1860 failed, instead he played unemployed with TSV Eslarn, a regional division of the Upper Palatinate .

In February 1990 Morack returned to Berlin and rejoined 1. FC Union, which was now playing in the GDR league. He played the remaining 16 point games of the season, in 1990/91 he played 19 times for Union in the newly designated NOFV league. In 1991/92, Morack, who is now over 30 years old, tried his hand at a season as a professional footballer at BSV Stahl Brandenburg in the 2nd Bundesliga . However, he did not get there beyond the role of the substitute player, played only eight point games, of which he only played 90 minutes in four games.

As a recreational footballer, Morack then played for the Brandenburg clubs SG Bornim , Babelsberg 03 and Werderaner FC. In Werder he also worked as a trainer before joining the 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam as a junior coordinator in 2006 .

His son Rico (* 1988) is also a professional soccer player.
