Matthias Paulus Steindl

Matthias Paulus Steindl , also Mathias Paulus Staindl (born September 24, 1761 in Wieden , † May 2, 1828 in Vienna ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Vienna.

Life

Born in 1761 in the 4th district of Wieden , Steindl studied theology in Vienna, was prefect at the Vienna General Seminary in 1787 and ordained a priest on July 27, 1788. From 1794 to 1806 he was director of the Vienna Alumnate. On July 5, 1803 he received his doctorate in theology and in the same year professor of New Testament Bible studies. 1808/09 he was dean of the theological faculty of the University of Vienna and in 1814 its rector. In 1817 he received a canonical to St. Stephan and on January 29, 1817, he became vicar general of the Archdiocese of Vienna. On April 14, 1817, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Vienna on 15 May 1817 by Archbishop Sigismund Anton von Hohenwart to titular bishop of Antaeopolis consecrated. In 1821 he became cathedral curator.
